Two sisters looking into the mirror

Into The Mirror is really damn good. I recommend it! No cheap scares (the mood is a lot less frightening than say, The Ring, Dark Water or Ju-on), and the whole theme about mirrors is so tight and well brought out. I found the ending very stylish. I guess this is the second korean horror flick i really like, after A Tale of Two Sisters. Incidentally, the story of Into The Mirror has two sisters in it too.

Let's get buried!

What's the deal with celebrity weddings? Let's just talk about artistes in Singapore. See when these people get married, tonnes of sponsors flock to them. They usually get their gowns sponsored... hair, flowers, jewellery, etc. The couple with one liver had their church reception sponsored, and when Pan Ling Ling got married, even her parents' clothes were sponsored. Li Nanxing and his wife didn't just have their honeymoon sponsored, the furniture in their new house was also sponsored.
But why in hell would they need those freebies? As if they can't afford all those things.

There's someone in my head but it's not me

It's always lovely to roam the streets with you like ghosts in the still of the night. We have my pack of poker and lots and lots of joy and laughter while melting away and looking at everything in a totally different way.

Here she comes now

Wouldn't it be nice if we were older then we wouldn't have to wait so long
And wouldn't it be nice to live together... ...

And the weekend wasn't so weird and almost screwed up.

Wouldn't it be nice...

There are all sorts of weird people in this world that it's a little frightening at times. Y'know people who think everything happening around them is about them? I don't know whether you can simply call it oversensitivity, but i feel it's a lot more than that. Because someone like that bothered my sleep on friday night so i took the liberty of analysing why these people are like that.
So i figured that basically, these people attach themselves to the happenings around them because it gives them a sense of identity to be related to an event, whether big or small, good or bad. And they need that sense of identity because... they have an identity crisis? And they have an identity crisis because they're just... hungry for attention, recognition and approval from other people?
These are the people who like to victimise themselves, in order to more rooted in the event. They just think that everything is about them and that when someone does something, it's because that someone wants to get at them. But most of the time, the victimising intent is imagined by the self-perpetuated victim.
An example i know is a certain Mr. Grunge. *tries not to laugh*
Mr. Grunge suffered a breakup a fairly long time ago but has not been able to get over it. And whenever his ex-girlfriend has the misfortune of running into him (S'pore is so tiny a country that there really aren't many places to go), he gets all angry and convinces himself that she makes her appearances deliberately to... taunt him.
This is your cue to laugh.
As if she needs to make her appearances physically to make a dig at Mr. Grunge. As if she's that concerned at all. After all, she's not the one who stalks people. (This is exclusive but Mr. Grunge had on several occasions shown up and loitered around the girl's place of residence, and had also threatened to wait for the girl at her school, though Mr. Grunge denied such claims.)

Enough of Mr. Grunge.

On Saturday, orchard road saw a 20% decrease in ugly girls because it was the Miss Singapore 2004 semi-finals. The percentage is expected to go down by another 10 percent on the day of the finals.

But you don't really care for music, do you?

Many (Jeff Buckley, John Cale, Bono, Rufus Wainwright, etc) have tried their hands at Hallelujah, a Leonard Cohen original. It's little wonder when the song is such a beautiful one. It has an alluring tune that perfectly complements the lyrics, which are very well-written and showcase a fine use of metaphors. Simply put, it's a classic!

End of a holiday

The New Paper deemed Man U as being "robbed" of their entry to the quarter finals of the Champions League. It's like they're implying Porto didn't deserve to win. Hello... Porto did put up a good fight despite Man U being so strong in attacking. What's more, their coach is a goodlooking man so full of style instead of some sore loser with no sporting spirit.
I enjoyed watching Monster. It's a sad story. Would've been better if those people sitting behind kept their mindless opinions to themselves. "So naive!" They kinda screwed up the experience mann, laughing at parts not meant to be funny, spouting ridiculous comments about the characters... making me wonder if they too got in without their IDs checked. Honey would've suited them better. Y'know there's a reason why people who go to the movies are called viewers/audience instead of commentators.

She's a lady!

Yesterday was one of my girlie's birthday. Happy birthday Mindy the Bitch Doctor (in training). I hope you had a great one, and that you'll have many happy years to come. Remember sweetie, it's youth and not age that matters. *big hugs*

Disclaimer: Mindy is not old.

What's in a name

When i did my internship at F&N Coca-Cola last June, there was this funky momma brand manager. Funky as in... 30 years old, married, named her daughter Gordan (how ace is that?), has a navel piercing and two tattoos. She was very fun to share a room with and part of the reason for which is that she litters her sentences with swear words, and the CD rack on her desk has Beck, Eminem and Smashing Pumpkins CDs! (there was limp bizkit or linkin park i can't recall which but let's not go there) I don't know about you but i was like whoaaaaa... I mean, i was expecting weird toady corporates y'know?
Anywayyyyy, my point is that her name is very funky too. Rivy. And she didn't give it to herself, like some cute people do these days. Jerlynn, Ashmond, Milk (???) etc etc.
See, her name is a hybrid of her parents' names. Richard + Ivy = Rivy. Sweet, isn't it?
So ever since i've been thinking of more hybrid names. What better way to pass time while waiting for the bus.

Philip + Dorothy = Filthy
Jonathan + Candice = Jaundice
Terence + Sheryl = Terror
Cecil + Harley = Silly
Monica + Esther = Monster (no i haven't left out the lesbians)
Sebastian + Richard = Bastard (one for the gay couple too)
Leslie + Fabian... (since we're at the topic of homosexuality)

Stop me before i go nuts. Have you got any to share? *giggles*

Oldies Goldies

The comp has come to life and i'm now blogging from the comfort of my room. Lovely, isn't it? I'd like to thank the Academy... nah just Desiree and Lionel for the brilliant problem-solving suggestion, and Special K for executing everything so nicely.
My Big Fish review is (finally) up; next is Beyond Borders, the preachy and geopolitical documentary style movie that gets lost in trying to do a Pearl Harbour.
The Egg sms-ed a coupla times from Melbourne (i think). He sounded like he's having a really nice trip. *smirks*
I have many many new songs on my comp now! More than 1GB's worth of new songs. Lovely, isn't it?
Today's anthem: The Band - Night They Drove Old Dixie Down
